Age Concern Hampshire Receives Donation of Dementia-Friendly Props from Oakley Stitchers
Age Concern Hampshire Receives Generous Donation from Oakley Stitchers CIC to Support Dementia Patients in Local Hospitals
On Friday, March 14th, 2025, Age Concern Hampshire announced a generous donation from Oakley Stitchers CIC, a dedicated community group that specializes in handcrafting dementia-friendly props. These items, including Twiddle Muffs, lap blankets, and fidget toys, will support the charity’s Hospital to Home service in Gosport, Petersfield, and Alton hospitals. The specially designed items will help patients with dementia feel more comfortable and engaged during their hospital stay and transition back home.
“We are delighted to receive this donation from Oakley Stitchers CIC,” said Brogan Rehill, Head of Fundraising & Volunteer Services at Age Concern Hampshire. “Their handcrafted items will make a significant difference in the lives of older patients by providing them with a sense of reassurance and familiarity during a potentially stressful time.”
Twiddle Muffs/mitts and similar sensory items have been proven to provide invaluable comfort to individuals living with dementia. These items offer soothing tactile stimulation, reduce anxiety, and help maintain fine motor skills. The donation from Oakley Stitchers CIC will directly benefit older patients, ensuring they receive additional care and support in a way that enhances their wellbeing.
