Gillies & Mackay Debuts Creative Outdoor Living Display at Glendoick Garden Centre

Last Updated on:

Gillies & Mackay has launched a brand-new garden room exhibit at Glendoick Garden Centre in Perthshire, showcasing their renowned craftsmanship through a potting shed and a purposefully styled garden room. The installation highlights local collaboration, imagination, and the enduring appeal of independent Scottish design.

The show area challenges conventional garden building concepts, instead offering refined spaces that blend elegance with adaptability.

The concept is driven by CEO Cara Mackay, a pioneering female figure in Scottish manufacturing. Her unique design perspective is transforming garden rooms into spaces full of character, creativity, and contemporary style.

Cara’s approach puts emphasis on both aesthetic appeal and practical use—inviting visitors to imagine how a garden room might serve as a personal haven, a home office, or a social hub. The Glendoick exhibit brings this vision to life, inviting guests to explore garden spaces that feel distinctly personal and carefully curated.

Each room has been styled with locally sourced and upcycled décor, including pieces from Glendoick itself. “We wanted to show that a garden room isn’t just a building—it’s a creative space that reflects your personality and enhances how you live,” says Cara, referencing both the expressive interior choices and the vibrant mural by artist Diane Selbie.

“This collaboration with Glendoick is more than just a display space,” says Cara. “It’s a showcase of how local talent and business partnerships can come together to create something inspiring and unique. We hope it sparks ideas for anyone looking to reimagine their garden or outdoor space.” She adds, “It’s not just an exhibit—it’s an area that inspires people to see the potential of their gardens as beautiful, functional spaces that offer a peaceful retreat from the demands of home and work.”

A key highlight is the ground mural by Diane Selbie, whose bold and whimsical designs are celebrated across the region. This newest work adds colour and movement to the garden room setting, building on the success of her earlier “Crazy Frog” mural created for founder John Mackay—a piece that captured the imagination of many.

Open throughout Glendoick’s standard hours, the new show area offers a burst of inspiration for anyone seeking to upgrade their garden with a touch of creativity, quality, and local flair.
