Accelerate CHERI Adoption: Codasip Launches Comprehensive Exploration Platform

Codasip Launches Codasip Prime: A New Exploration Platform for CHERI Technology

Munich, Germany – Codasip®, the leading European RISC-V company, has announced the release of Codasip Prime, an exploration platform for CHERI (Capability Hardware Enhanced RISC Instructions) technology. This platform includes pre-silicon hardware and software development kits, allowing for advanced development of memory-safe and secure software.

The Codasip Prime platform is based on the Codasip X730 application core, which integrates CHERI technology. It features a high-performance FPGA (field programmable gate array) system, including the processor and peripherals, as well as a full software development kit. This allows hardware and software engineers to evaluate and demonstrate the capabilities of CHERI technology, develop and run CHERI software, and integrate CHERI hardware into wider test systems.

“Our new platform is a game changer for consumer, automotive, and defense companies looking to adopt CHERI technology,” said Jamie Broome, Chief Product Officer at Codasip. “Codasip Prime offers software developers the opportunity to develop and evaluate their applications before chips are built. In addition to hardware and software, we also offer engineering support from our CHERI experts. We are committed to maintaining alignment with industry standards through our participation in the CHERI Alliance and RISC-V International, ensuring that our customers’ integrations are future-proof.”

CHERI technology effectively prevents memory safety issues, which have become increasingly important to businesses due to recent legislation such as the EU Cyber Resilience Act. According to studies, memory safety vulnerabilities are used in up to 87% of cyberattack chains, resulting in significant financial losses. CHERI is a cost-effective solution to protect against these vulnerabilities, as it is backwards compatible and allows for migration to safer code, making C/C++ memory safe and avoiding costly software rewrites.

Codasip is currently standardizing a CHERI extension for RISC-V in collaboration with other members of the CHERI Alliance, a community interest organization promoting the global adoption of CHERI security technology across the computing industry. The alliance includes members such as the University of Cambridge, Google, the UK’s National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), and the UK’s Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl).

The Codasip X730 is the first commercial implementation of the new CHERI-RISC-V extension and is available for immediate use.
