“Free Winter Meals for Young People at Legacy Youth Zone Croydon”
On Thursday 19 December, 2024, Legacy Youth Zone, part of the Onside Network of Youth Zones in the UK, announced that they will be offering free hot meals this winter to help alleviate the cost of living crisis. This initiative is made possible through funding from Intermediate Capital Group (ICG) and will begin in January 2025.
Last year, Legacy Youth Zone provided free hot meals to its members in December 2023, with over 2,300 young people benefitting from this program. The Youth Zone, located in Croydon, is a safe space for young people aged 8-19 (or up to 25 with additional needs) to engage in various activities and express themselves. With an annual membership fee of only £5 and a session fee of 50p, Legacy Youth Zone is an affordable option for young people to learn new skills and socialize with their peers. It boasts a fully equipped gym, music room, recording studio, podcast room, art room, boxing gym, and more, all accessible for just 50p a day.
Typically, hot meals at the Youth Zone cost only £1, providing young people with the opportunity to have a hot home-cooked meal while socializing with others. However, with the rising cost of living affecting families across the country, this funding will be used to supply free meals for all young people who attend the Youth Zone this winter.
Legacy Youth Zone in Croydon is just one of the OnSide Youth Zones available in London. Other Youth Zones include West Youth Zone in Hammersmith and Fulham, Unitas in Barnet, and Future Youth Zone in Barking and Dagenham.
