Hampshire Commemorates Dementia Action Week with Festivities

Age Concern Hampshire, a charity that provides services to the older community in Hampshire, celebrated Dementia Action Week by hosting a range of activities at their Care and Wellbeing Centres in Yateley, New Milton, Locks Heath, and Dibden on Monday 19 May, 2025. The aim of these activities was to enhance the lives of individuals living with dementia by providing person-centred care in a safe and welcoming environment.

The charity organized sessions including music and pet therapy, which are known to have a positive impact on individuals with dementia. These activities are a part of Age Concern Hampshire’s ongoing commitment to providing high-quality and affordable day care services to support individuals living with dementia.

The importance of early diagnosis for dementia was also highlighted during this week. With nearly one million people in the UK living with dementia and over 200,000 receiving a diagnosis each year, early diagnosis is crucial in providing the right care and support to individuals. Age Concern Hampshire recognizes this growing need and continues to offer tailored support through their day care services.

According to Hannah Park, Head of Operations at Age Concern Hampshire, their Care and Wellbeing Centres provide a supportive environment for individuals living with dementia while also offering respite for family carers. The centres offer a range of engaging activities, a two-course lunch, and optional transportation, all tailored to meet the individual needs of their clients.

In addition to highlighting early diagnosis, Dementia Action Week also sheds light on the challenges faced by family carers. Many experience emotional and physical exhaustion, and Age Concern Hampshire recognizes the importance of providing respite care. Their day care services give carers peace of mind, knowing their loved ones are receiving expert care in a safe and supportive environment.

For families seeking more information or unsure of the support available, Age Concern Hampshire offers taster days at their Care and Wellbeing Centres. These sessions provide an opportunity to explore the variety of care and activities specifically designed to support individuals living with dementia.
