House of Lords hosts grand Ruby celebration

The Nystagmus Network, a national registered charity, is celebrating its fortieth year of providing support and information to families and individuals diagnosed with nystagmus. The organisation, founded by Vivien Jones in 1984, began as a self-help group after Jones received the devastating news that her infant son had the incurable eye condition.

Since its humble beginnings, the Nystagmus Network has grown into a well-established charity with a strong digital presence. Vivien Jones, still at the helm, has seen tremendous growth in the organisation, which now boasts a team of volunteers, trustees, and staff members. The charity’s core values of personal contact and support remain at the forefront of its work.

Throughout 2024, the Nystagmus Network has been celebrating its fortieth year with various campaigns, events, and competitions. The highlight of these celebrations will be the Ruby Anniversary Reception, to be held on Tuesday 19 November at the House of Lords. The event, kindly sponsored by The Lord Blunkett, will be attended by a range of guests, including Vivien’s family, trustees, volunteers, and supporters. Also in attendance will be researchers, academics, and clinicians who have collaborated with the charity over the years.

One special guest at the reception will be Marsha De Cordova MP, an advocate for rights and opportunities for disabled individuals. Marsha, who has nystagmus herself, has been a dedicated supporter of the Nystagmus Network and recently accepted an ambassadorial role for the charity. The organisation is honored to have her continued support.
