How Muslim Pro Is Building a Digital Faith Community Through User Feedback

From a simple tracker of prayer times to a titan in the faith-tech space, Muslim Pro has grown from a nascent app to a 170 million strong user base across 190 countries and has become a comprehensive digital companion for Muslims worldwide, driven largely by an ongoing conversation with its global community of users.

With 1.9 billion observers, Muslims comprise an estimated 25% of the world’s population.

“It was launched to provide accurate prayer times for Muslims all over the world, especially where that information was not easily accessible,” explains Nafees Khundker, CEO and group managing director of Muslim Pro. “People in the West, they’re the ones who needed it most, because mosques aren’t all over the place, right? It was like a companion for any Muslim to understand when the prayer times are.”

This foundational utility quickly grew in popularity, especially in unexpected markets. “Although it was launched from Singapore with the initial expectation that people in Southeast Asia would adopt it most quickly, because you have a lot of Muslims here, we were surprised to see that it was very quickly accepted in the Western world,” he says.

As the app gained traction, its developers began expanding its functionality based on user needs. “We started providing additional services,” says Khundker. “Services that we thought Muslims would need, or Muslims always use, like the Quran, the first thing they would do is probably refer to Quran for questions, answers, or even read the Quran and try to understand the Quran.”

Meeting Diverse Faith-Based Needs in a Global Community

One of the most significant developments for Muslim Pro has been catering to its remarkably diverse user base spanning numerous countries. Khundker acknowledges this diversity as a key factor in the app’s development.

“We are in Muslim majority countries and Muslim minority countries, but for different reasons,” Khundker explains. “It’s just amazing to see that there’s no real age limit.”

The app has adapted to serve this diverse population by adding features that cater to regional preferences and needs, including multilingual options.” You can actually read the Quran in more than 60 languages on the platform today.”

“Indonesia is the largest Muslim-populated country in the world, and Muslim Pro is extremely, extremely popular there, and in countries that have a concentration of Muslims.”

Building a Digital Home for Muslims Worldwide

As it expands, Muslim Pro is adding more interactive features to engage users.

“Our vision is to be the digital home for all things Muslim, which is combining faith, technology, and also the whole lifestyle for Muslims. Whatever a Muslim needs in their daily life, we want to be there to provide those services.”

Those services include its brand-new AI-powered tool to help users find reliable Islamic information. “We call Ask AiDeen, which is basically for any questions anyone has regarding Islam,” says Khundker.

And users can connect on the platform, thanks to the app’s recent revamp of its community section, which launched in time for the start of Ramadan.  “It’s where people can access various forums and connect with different scholars, enabling much more interaction within our app,” says Khundker. “We feel that people all over the world want to connect with each other digitally with all these services. We’ve already built a community. It’s a global community. Now, they can actually come and interact with each other within the app also.”

Muslim Pro’s impact is perhaps best illustrated through personal stories from users whose lives have been changed by the app.

“One person was actually a revert from Europe. She sent a message through to our customer service and explained how Muslim Pro has changed her life, where she used it on a daily basis to read and understand the Quran, to really get back and find more context in what Islam is, and how to actually practice Islam.”

He adds, “This person’s Islamic journey actually started with Muslim Pro because she can easily have the whole Quran on her app, carry it around, look at it anytime, and ask any Islamic question that she has.”

Through technological innovation and community building, Muslim Pro aims to position itself as a comprehensive resource for Muslims worldwide. As Khundker simply puts it, “We want people to share their thoughts. It’s more ways of connecting. We want to be an app you turn to for anything you need to practice Islam — or anything you need in your daily life.”
