Las Vegas will host 2024 Super Bowl

THE United States’ biggest sporting event reportedly is heading to one of the nation’s biggest tourist destinations.

The 2024 Super Bowl will be held in Las Vegas, according to multiple media reports on Monday. The venue selection for the Feb. 11, 2024, game reportedly will be approved by the National Football League (NFL) owners on Wednesday.

Super Bowl LVIII had been slated for New Orleans, but a conflict with Mardi Gras forced the NFL to look elsewhere for a site.

The Raiders are completing their second season of action in Las Vegas after relocating from Oakland. Once an NFL team moved to Sin City, it was expected that a Super Bowl would be slated for Las Vegas sooner rather than later.

Allegiant Stadium, the new $2-billion home of the Raiders, normally has just 65,000 seats, below the NFL’s required minimum of 70,000, according to ESPN. However, ESPN added that the league could either expand the stadium’s capacity or waive the seating requirement.

Moving Super Bowl LVIII from Louisiana to Nevada would put three consecutive NFL title games in the Southwest. Super Bowl LVI is set for Feb. 13, 2022 in Inglewood, CA, and Super Bowl LVII will be held on Feb. 12, 2023 in Glendale, AZ. New Orleans will host Super Bowl LIX on Feb. 9, 2025. — Reuters
