Special care babies benefit from £40k raised at World Prematurity Ball
New Life Special Care Babies charity celebrated World Prematurity Day on Saturday 16th November with their annual World Prematurity Ball at The Owners Club, Newbury Racecourse. The sold-out event was attended by 180 guests, including regular supporters and fundraisers, as well as neonatal staff from The Royal Berks Hospital in Reading and The Great Western Hospital in Swindon. Surprise guest Denise van Outen added to the evening’s excitement.
The event raised an impressive total of £40,000, surpassing last year’s amount. The funds were generated through ticket sales, a live auction hosted by comedian Aaron James, a silent auction, and a raffle. One of the most popular auction items was a set of four tickets to see Oasis, which raised an incredible £10,000.
Dr. Sarah Bates, Consultant Paediatrician and Neonatologist at GWH Swindon, delivered a moving presentation on the impact of New Life’s contributions to reducing preterm mortality in premature babies. Through their funding of state-of-the-art equipment, which currently totals £650,000, New Life has made a significant difference in the lives of premature infants.
The money raised from the event will go towards purchasing a new ventilator for The Royal Berks Hospital and equipment for the Transitional Care Unit at The Great Western Hospital.
