Weleda Experiences Record Turnover and Substantially Increases Profitability in Fiscal Year 2024

Weleda AG, the global leader in certified natural cosmetics and anthroposophic medicines, has reported a successful 2024 financial year with a record-high turnover of EUR 456.2 million. This marks an 8.3% increase from the previous year’s turnover of EUR 421.2 million. The company also saw a significant improvement in profitability, with its operating profit (EBIT excluding special effects) more than doubling to EUR 28.3 million from EUR 13.4 million in the previous year.

Weleda’s strong performance was driven by both business units, Natural Cosmetics and Pharmaceuticals, and all regions globally. In Natural Cosmetics, sales increased by 8.2% to EUR 367.9 million, while Pharmaceuticals saw an 8.7% increase to EUR 88.3 million. CEO Tina Müller attributes the company’s success to its strategy of “growth with responsibility,” stating, “Our positive performance shows that our strategy is working.”

Weleda’s international expansion efforts have also contributed to its growth, with double-digit sales growth in major markets such as Asia and the USA. The company has also seen a strong recovery in its core D-A-CH region (Germany, Austria, and Switzerland) after several challenging years. In Germany, the company’s largest market, sales increased by 6.2%, and in Switzerland, sales rose by 7.4%. Weleda’s launch of new webshops in both countries in 2024 supported this positive development.

Innovation has also been a key driver of Weleda’s success, with new products such as the rejuvenating Blue Gentian & Edelweiss facial care and the extended Rosemary hair care line contributing to growth in the cosmetics segment. In the pharmaceuticals segment, Weleda’s focus on core product categories, including eye health, stress & sleep, and digestion, has had a positive impact on performance. Sales of eye preparations, in particular, saw a 32% increase.

At the beginning of 2024, Weleda implemented a new organisational structure, which included dedicated business units for Natural Cosmetics and Pharmaceuticals. This move has made the company faster, more efficient, and more effective, according to CEO Tina Müller. Weleda remains committed to its core values, with sustainability continuing to underpin its business model. In 2024, the company sharpened its sustainability strategy and set ambitious new targets, including achieving net zero for Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2040.

Looking ahead, Weleda is focused on innovation, with the recently launched multi-generation skincare line minLen being the first in a new series of product ranges set to be introduced in 2025. The company is also strengthening its innovative capabilities in Pharmaceuticals with the formation of an interdisciplinary team called Futurum. Additionally, Weleda has refreshed its brand image to appeal to a younger target group and will be rolling out its new brand identity throughout 2025.

CEO Tina Müller concludes, “We have set the course for long-term success, and we have started the new financial year with strong momentum. We will continue on our growth path with many innovations.” More information about Weleda can be found at www.weleda.com.
