Xella Makes Strides in Reducing CO₂ Emissions, Implementing Circular Economy, and Enhancing Occupational Safety

Xella Group, a leading European provider of sustainable, efficient, and affordable walling solutions, has announced significant progress in their sustainability efforts over the past year. The company is well on track to achieve their ambitious sustainability targets for 2030.

In terms of CO₂ reduction, Xella’s scope 1 and 2 market-based emissions decreased by 6.6 percent, largely due to the implementation of energy efficiency projects and measures. The company also reached a significant milestone by completing their coal phase-out and installing future-proof gas boilers that have the capability to use hydrogen. These efforts have already resulted in a 30 percent reduction in scope 1 and 2 emissions, in line with Xella’s climate targets that have been approved by the Science Based Targets Initiative.

Xella has also made progress in their circular economy goals, setting a target to send zero leftovers to landfill by 2030. In the past year, they have reduced the amount of leftovers from their building products by 46 percent and continue to optimize their formulations and value chain to increase the use of recycled materials. Additionally, the company has made strides in improving occupational safety, recording a 20 percent decrease in lost-time injuries.
