PERPETUAL Help Lady Altas — NCAA/GMA-SYNERGY

Games Tuesday(San Andres Complex)9 a.m. — Mapua vs LPU (M/W)2 p.m. — UPHSD vs JRU (W/M)

UNIVERSITY of Perpetual Help System Dalta (UPHSD) eyes to reestablish its hold as the most dominant team in NCAA men’s volleyball in the last decade as it guns for the solo lead against Jose Rizal University (JRU) today in Season 98 at the San Andres Complex.

Winners of seven of the last nine editions, the Altas shoot for title No. 8 this year and 13th overall, which would tie them with the Letran Knights with the most championships in the league.

UPHSD did well in its season debut Saturday when it turned back a stubborn Emilio Aguinaldo College (EAC), 25-22, 25-22, 25-22, and could leapfrog to the top if it could hurdle JRU, which came from a 22-25, 25-17, 25-20, 26-24 defeat to Arellano University on opening day, in their 4 p.m. showdown.

“We just want to make the whole Perpetual Help community proud,” said UPHSD coach Sammy Acaylar.

UPHSD, which downed EAC, 25-21, 26-24, 25-16, will likewise seek for the solo lead in the women’s section as it battles JRU at 2 p.m.

Mary Rhose Dapol and Sheila Omipon are expected to lead the way for UPHSD mentor Sandy Rieta’s charges after uncorking 17 and 16 points, respectively, in their title campaign-launching win.

Also scheduled for today are the men’s and women’s matches pitting Mapua University and Lyceum of the Philippines U starting at 9 a.m. — Joey Villar
